Long overdue

20110604-015001.jpg

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve posted and I’m sorry for the delay.

Bellona is still doing awesome. 5 rounds of Chemo are done and 1 more to go. We recently changed to Dr. Pam for Bellona’s care. Our vet of 9 years moved away and it was a good opportunity to seek out Dr. Pam since she’s active in the Tripawd community and has been in our shoes before.

Most of the delays in blogging have been for personal reasons. We finalized the adoption of our daughter and our additional 2 dogs have come home.

We truly have a full house now with 2 Cane Corso, 2 shortie Jack Russells, a 3-1/2 year old and my husband and I.

Dash, one of our Jack Russells is a crazy Epileptic boy and requires more special care than Bellona. Dash is handful and as I said before he could use his own blog for all of his crazy capers.

Here are some recent photos of Big B. Thank you for still reading about our Princess Bella Bellona.

3rd round of Chemo & no Mets

It’s been a busy 3 weeks for us and Bellona is doing Awesome!

We’re at Sumner Vet right now and Bellona is getting Chemo round 3. Dr. Carlson said Big B’s X-Rays came back clear and we couldn’t be more excited!

Second try at Chemo round 2

Bellona went to the vet this morning to have her blood taken.  Hopefully her white blood cells are high enough for Chemo tomorrow.

No Chemo today

I took Bellona into the vet this morning for Chemo but after they drew her blood the found her white blood cell count was too low today.  Dr. Carlson said the minimum acceptable is 3500 and Bellona’s white cell count was 2300.  We have appointments for next weekend to try again.  Saturday for blood work and Sunday for Chemo as long as her white blood cells have improved.

Still doing great

Sorry I haven’t blogged in a while.  I’ve been sick and we’ve been pretty busy.  Bellona is still doing great and has been running a lot more now when she’s outside.

Right now Bellona is curled up on the couch next to me.  I had to scoot her over a little bit since she was taking up the whole couch.  Tomorrow morning Bellona has her second round of Chemo.  I’ll write more tomorrow after Bellona’s treatment.

Day 32 – Update

Sorry I haven’t blogged in a few days.  Bellona is still doing great – and continues to be a little ornery.  Bellona’s normal personality is somewhat ornery so I’m not worried at all.

29 Days – I can jump over that

Bellona decided it was time for bed and figured the best way to get upstairs was to climb over the (baby/dog) gate. I thought I was going to have a panic attack or a broken dog.

The gate is one step up and 29″ high. Bellona was standing on her back legs, had her front leg draped over the top and she was in the process of climbing up and over the the gate.

I stopped Big B before she made it over the top – thank goodness. That crazy girl doesn’t think anything can slow her down or get in her way.

Before Bellona’s surgery it would be common for her to reach her paw up and pull down the gate. Since Big B only has 1 front leg now, I guess she found it easier to try to climb over.

Bellona was living up to her diva nickname tonight – Princess Bella Bellona.

1 Month – Bed Hog

Last night Bellona slept on our bed all night.  Before the amputation that was her normal sleeping spot at bed time.  Bellona must have been comfortable because she was snoring and hogging the bed.

Day 27 – 1 week after 1st Chemo

Bellona is at her usual spot this time of the evening (on the dog bed in front of the fire).

It’s now 1 week since Bellona’s first Chemo treatment of Carbo and she didn’t have any adverse reactions – yay! Bellona is amazing and able to put up with a lot – just like the other Tripawds before her.

I think it takes a certain type of dog that can deal with the many things involved for a Tripawd. I’m still amazed how well Bellona is on 3 legs as she runs and acts like nothing ever happened.
